Edwin R. Booton, 73, of
Old Forge, passed away peacefully on
June 26, 2026, at Upstate Community
Hospital after a courageous battle
with cancer. Edwin was born on
September 13, 1952, in Rome, New York,
to the late Edwin and Marietta
(Sestito) Booton. He was educated at
Rome Free Academy, graduating in 1970
before attending SUNY Plattsburgh,
where he earned a bachelor's degree in
Political Science and Economics. On
September 15, 1984, Edwin married
Sandra P. Morgan, in Connecticut.
Together they shared 41 years of
marriage. He was a dedicated husband
and devoted father to their daughter
Ashley.
After college, Ed began
his career working for the Department
of the Interior as a park ranger on
the Skyline Drive in Virginia. He
later worked for John Deere as a
territory manager, and alongside his
father-in-law in the material handling
business, prior to moving to Old
Forge. Once in Old Forge, he owned and
operated Ed Booton Contracting. Ed was
dedicated to his community,
volunteering for 20 years with the
Eagle Bay Volunteer Hose Company
member 113 and 10 years as an EMT with
Inlet Volunteer Emergency Services.
Outside of work, he found his greatest
escapes in simple pleasures, whether
he was completely absorbed in a
western or military history novel, out
on the open road on his motorcycle, or
casting a line to fish whenever he had
the time.
He is lovingly
remembered by his wife, Sandy, his
daughter, Ashley, and her husband,
Alden NeQuent, all of Old Forge; his
sisters, Ivy (Kevin) Lewis, Debra
(Robert) Booton, and Bethany (Larry)
Robinson, his Aunt Doreen (Brian)
Kelly as well as several nieces,
nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.
Edwin was predeceased by his parents,
uncle, Fr. Joseph Sestito and
stepfather John Stoehr. The family
extends their heartfelt gratitude to
the entire staff at Upstate Cancer
Center for the exceptional care,
compassion, and kindness they showed
to Ed and his family throughout his
illness. Services will be held at the
convenience of the family. In lieu of
flowers, memorial donations may be
made in Edwin's memory to the Eagle
Bay Volunteer Hose Company or Inlet
Volunteer Emergency Services.
