Valerie
Catalano
August 7,
1951 - January 17, 2022
Valerie Lynn Premo passed
away on January 17, 2022, beside her
loving family in Riverside, California,
where she recently relocated. She was 70
years old.
Valerie was born on August 7, 1951, in
Rome, NY, to John and Dolores Catalano.
She grew up in Rome and lived there her
entire life. Val was a graduate of Rome
Free Academy and went on to work 33 years
as a secretary for Rome Laboratories. She
retired in February 2014. She loved her
job and the people she worked with but was
really enjoying her retirement. Valerie is
survived by her two children, nine
grandchildren and two brothers. She
dedicated her life to her family.
Those who knew her, knew her love of music
and going to concerts. She had a passion
for meeting celebrities. Her celebrity
count was pretty impressive. She met
people like Michael Jackson, Richard Gere,
Willie Nelson, Daryl Hall, Phil Collins,
and Jon Bon Jovi just to name a few. One
of Val’s most iconic memories was the
night she met and kissed Elvis Presley on
the lips in 1971 at a concert in Las
Vegas. It was one amazing memory she
shared often. She could have written a
book about her encounters.
Valerie had the biggest heart and even
bigger personality. She was full of spunk
and was always looking to have a good time
no matter what she was doing. She was
known to go above and beyond to make you
feel special and valued. She was truly the
greatest mother and grandma. Val was one
of a kind and loved her friends dearly.
You would always find her on the phone
chit chatting with them for hours. She
loved many things, poker nights, going to
dinner, traveling, staying in hotels, and
shopping, but most of all she loved her
lip gloss and Nivea hand cream. She was an
animal lover and was extremely attached to
her doggy “Dewy, Dewy, Dewy.”
Valerie loved the Lord and would pray
regularly. She is forever at peace resting
beside her beloved mother and father. Her
wishes were to have a private ceremony
with family.
Those she left behind will never forget
her. How could we forget such a unique and
wonderful person. Her memory will forever
be embedded in all of us.
We love you more than life itself -
Jonnie, Peggy, Tyler, Kolby, Nova, April,
Steve, Ayrial, Carson, Steven, Olivia,
Mariah, Brooklyn, Jeff and Kayla.

I met Valerie in 7th
grade. We became and remained good
friends throughout junior high. When I
moved to Pennsylvania in 1966, we kept
in touch. She wrote to me often and
her letters were usually 3 or 4 pages
long as she kept me posted with
happenings in Rome. We spoke on the
phone back then too when I'd walk to a
phone booth and paid 65 cents for 3
minutes. She was such a kind teen
which carried over to womanhood. I
miss you Val! - Dennis Parrish

Val
had the most beautiful smile. She was
gorgeous. I admired her for her beauty
inside and out. She always had a big
smile on her face, so kind and
compassionate. This angel went home to
be an angel in Heaven. - Debra Nash

I was lucky to work down
the hall from Val for 30+ years. She
worked her way up the ladder to become the
lead secretary for Rome Lab's Information
Intelligence Systems and Analysis Division
where they develop the technologies for
the most important Air Force and National
Intelligence Community systems that keep
us safe and provide direct support to the
warfighters. When she retired Val was at
the top of her game, the best secretary in
all of Rome Lab. Engineers could not do
their jobs without her help. And she was
always very friendly to all.
I was lucky to know and work with her.

I read all the
stories from Valerie’s family and
friends posted including the link to the
paper and funeral home in California
where she passed. It was so uplifting to
read about a very special classmate, and
how she went out of her way to help
others and make them comfortable. We
didn’t realize it when we were in school
but the seeds were being sowed for our
lives ahead of us, and from what I
learned from all these posts , we were
all blessed to have Val as our friend. -
