Rose Smith

Rose M. (Smith) Menter Nardozza, 60, of Rome, passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2012 with her loving family by her side.

She was born on October 7, 1952 in Rome; a daughter of the late Frank and Alvera Colucy Smith Sr. On November 26, 1971, Rose was united in marriage to William Menter Sr. and from this union they raised three children. She was then united in marriage to Nicholas Nardozza on July 8, 2012. Rosie was employed at Rome Memorial Hospital for 12 years.

Rose was of the Catholic Faith and was a member of the Henry P. Smith Post American Legion #24 Ladies Auxiliary. When her children were younger she was very involved with Rome youth sports. Rosie was a volunteer with Rome American Little League, Sam Messineo Basketball League, Pop Warner Football, Rome Pony Colt Baseball League, RFA Touchdown Club, and Smith Post Baseball. She was always dependable and if anyone needed her she was there. Rose was devoted to her entire family especially her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Nicholas Nardozza; a daughter, Tammy Colvin; two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Nancy Menter, Jr. and Robert and Robyn Menter, all of Rome; six cherished grandchildren, Eric, Emily, Stone, Nathan, Hagen, and Vivian; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathleen and James O’Rourke, Audrey and Michael O’Rourke, and Mary Anne and Ronald Casadei, all of Rome; a brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Mary Smith, Jr. of Fayetteville; her best friend, Debra Unangst; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Rose was preceded in death by a sister, Kimberly Anne Smith and a niece, Lisa Marie O’Rourke.

Mrs. Nardozza’s funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10:00a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Philip Hearn. Private interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00p.m. at the Gulla Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 209 N. Washington St., Rome, (336-5700).
