Robert Garlinghouse

Robert
L. Garlinghouse, 85, of Rome, passed
away Thursday, November 29, 2007 at
University Hospital, Syracuse.
He was born in Syracuse, N.Y., on
March 20, 1922, a son of the late
Frederick L. and Gertrude Verhyn
Garlinghouse. He was a graduate
of Ithaca College. Mr.
Garlinghouse served with the U.S.
Marine Corps during World War II and
the Korean War. On June 6, 1949,
he married Jean DeLutis in St. John
the Baptist Church. Mr.
Garlinghouse retired from the Rome
City School District. He was a
member of St. John the Baptist Church,
V.F.W. Post #2246, H.P. Smith Post #24
American Legion, the New York State
Teachers Association, South Rome
Senior Citizens Center, AARP and YMCA.
Surviving besides his wife Jean, are a
son and daughter-in-law, Jon and
Jodawn Garlinghouse, Mass., a
daughter, Beth Ann Shelton, North
Carolina; three grandchildren, Kelly
Lynn Garlinghouse, Matthew
Garlinghouse and Madison
Garlinghouse. Also surviving are
sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law,
Peggy Cudilo, New Hartford, Dorothy
Kopchik, Scottsdale, Ariz., Elaine
Kowalsky, New Hartford, and Ann and
Bob Nicholson, Rome; several nieces
and nephews; and a special friend,
Harvey Steinberg, Syracuse. He
was predeceased by a son-in-law, Mark
Shelton.
Funeral services will be held on
Monday at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the
Baptist Church where friends are
invited to attend. Burial will
be held in St. Johns Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Nicholas J.
Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court
St., on Sunday from 2-5 p.m.
