Marilyn
June Thomas, 77, of Capron Road died
unexpectedly on October 30, 2009 at
Faxton-St. Lukes Healthcare in New
Hartford of complications following
surgery. Marilyn was born in Kingston,
NY on July 29, 1932, a daughter of the
late Archambault C. and Margaret
(Marnett) Thomas.
She graduated from Kingston schools
and attended Cortland State College,
where she was awarded a Bachelors
degree in 1953, followed by a Masters
degree from Syracuse University. Miss
Thomas began her career as a Health
and Physical Education teacher and
athletic team coach in 1954. She
taught at Waterville Central School
and Rome Free Academy before accepting
a position at the Watertown City
School System.
Upon retiring in 1994, Marilyn moved
into her summer camp on White Lake at
Woodgate, NY. She was a member of the
Adirondack White Lake Association,
Woodgate Pines Golf Club, and the
Alpha Zeta society. She enjoyed doing
volunteer work at the Woodgate Free
Library. Survivors include a brother,
A. Charles Thomas of West Hurley, NY;
two sisters, Isabella Steltz and her
husband, Arthur, of West Hurley, and
Marguerite Ann Bonestell of NC;
several nieces and nephews; and a very
close friend, Shirley Hodge. She was
predeceased by a brother, Ronald B.
Thomas in 2005.
A graveside service will be held at
the convenience of the family.
Visitation will be held on Friday,
November 6, 2009 from 2-6 p.m. at the
White Otter Fish & Game Club,
Woodgate, NY. Contributions in
Marilyn's memory may be made to the
Woodgate Volunteer Fire Department or
the Woodgate Free Library, Woodgate,
NY 13494. Arrangements are under the
direction of Trainor Funeral Home,
Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville,
NY 13309.
