Joseph J. Commisso,
65, of Rome, passed away at home
on Thursday, August 17, 2017.
He was born in Rome on June 25,
1952 a son of Francis and Anna
Grieco Commisso. He was a graduate
of RFA class of 1970 and of Albany
State University in 1974 with a
Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Joe worked at Rome Lab at GAFB as
an accountant until his retirement
in 2005.
Joy enjoyed golfing and attending
pro golf tournaments. He was an
avid vegetable gardener who kept
all his friends and family
supplied with all kinds of fresh
vegetables every year. He spent
much of his spare time going to
the casino, taking bus trips with
the Ava Dorfman Seniors Center and
taking many, many fitness classes
at the YMCA and senior center. The
Saratoga race season was a special
time of the year for Joe who spent
countless hours “handicapping” the
horses. Joe loved cooking (and
eating) and would prepare a feast
for the whole family every
Christmas Eve. Joe was a wonderful
person who had a really big heart,
a great sense of humor and would
do anything for his family and
friends. Joe embraced “old school”
values and definitely marched to
the beat of his own drum. He will
be sorely missed by all who got to
really know him.
Joe is survived by his beloved
family, two brothers and
sisters-in-law, John and Maria
Commisso of Rome and James and
Carol Commisso of New Hartford;
cherished nieces, Lisa (Carl)
Lundell and Marie Commisso; great
nieces, Kira and Mia Lundell and
several cousins.
Joe was a member of St. John the
Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be
celebrated on Wednesday morning at
11:00 in St. John the Baptist
Church for a Mass of Christian
Burial with the Rev. Paul F.
Angelicchio as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. John’s
Cemetery.
In accordance with Joe’s wishes,
there will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers please consider
contributions to the Ava Dorfman
Senior Center, 305 E. Locust
Street, Rome, NY 13440. Envelopes
will be available at the Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted
to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120
W. Embargo St.
