Jacqueline
Marguerite Moore Baynes went home to God
peacefully on Monday, July 22, 2019 after
receiving superior care from the staffs of
the Terrace at Woodland Assisted Living
Community and 3 East at Rome Memorial
Hospital. She was born in Paris, France on
October 29, 1922, the daughter of
Marie-Therese Bellivier and Lucien
Watterson Moore. Her parents met during
World War I, an American father and
Parisian mother. When Jacqueline was 17
the family was forced to flee France
during the German invasion and settled in
Chicago.
Jacqueline graduated from Dennison
University in 1943. She was employed at
the Rome School District for 18 years
teaching French.
Jacqueline was united in marriage to John
Wallis Baynes on December 16, 1944 at St.
Ambrose Church in Chicago, IL.
She was a member of the Peach Twig, Lake
Delta Yacht Club, Wednesday Morning Club,
the Rome Art and Community Center,
Altar/Rosary Society at St. Mary’s/ St.
Peters and past president of the St.
Mary’s/St. Peter’s Seniors.
Jacqueline enjoyed playing bridge and
knitting blankets for all her friends and
family. She especially enjoyed traveling
to see tennis worldwide with her beloved
sister Beatrice.
Jacqueline is survived by her three
children and son-in-law, John Baynes of
Elmwood Park, IL, Marie-France and Mike
Kunkel of Rome and Brian Baynes of Utica;
sister-in-law Ghislaine Moore of Palm
Beach Garden, FL; cousin Claude Brochot of
Paris, France; seven grandchildren and
their spouses, Andrew and Mindy Baynes of
Cincinnati, OH, Christopher and Chandelle
Baynes of Sherwood, OR, Elizabeth Baynes
of Atlanta, GA, Patrick Baynes of
Philadelphia, PA, Robert and Holly Baynes
of Elkhorn, NE, Wendy and Scott Matteson
of Tyngsboro, MA and Kimberly Wood of
Hampden, ME; twelve great-grandchildren,
Abraham Baynes, Aria and Declan Baynes,
Julian, Benjamin, and Andrew Baynes,
Sophie Makarowski, James, Abigail and
William Matteson, and Chase and Kasey
Roberts. Jacqueline was predeceased by her
brother Daniel George Moore, sister
Beatrice Moore Kimball and daughter-in-law
Mary Baynes.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday,
July 25, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s
Church, 200 N. James St., Rome. Interment
will take place in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
There are no calling hours. In lieu of
flowers, contributions in Jacqueline’s
memory may be made to the Mission of the
Christ Child, C/O St. Peter’s Church, 200
N. James St., Rome NY 13440.
