Elizabeth Clancy

2019
Elizabeth
(Betty) Clancy passed away on June 17,
2019 after a courageous battle with
Leukemia. She was born December 24,
1932, the eldest daughter of Floyd and
Henrietta Rocker. On April 5, 1958,
she married James Clancy, who passed
away June 4, 2003.
Betty graduated from Oriskany Central
School. She received her BA and MA
from State University at Albany. She
taught Math at Laurel Street School
and Rome Free Academy, retiring in
June 1988.
Betty and Jim hosted four different
children from New York City through
The Fresh Air Fund for 15 years. Betty
served as Chairman of the Rome Branch
to place children in homes of host
families.
Betty was a member of Plum Twigs
volunteers at Rome Memorial Hospital
(who coordinate fund-raisers to help
buy equipment for the hospital). She
was recognized for logging over 3,500
volunteer hours. She served as
Treasurer of the main Twigs for four
years and Treasurer of the Plum Twigs
for 26 years.
Betty was a lifelong member of St.
John's Lutheran Church. She served as
Directress of the Ruth Altar Guild.
She was Chairman of the annual Bazaar
and Chairman of the two annual Rummage
Sales. She was a member of the
Sew-n-Sew group, which made quilts to
send to Third World Countries and
local groups in need.
She is survived by a daughter and
son-in-law, Patti and Dominic
Borrelli. She also leaves
grandchildren: Nicole (Tim) Holahan,
Peter (Andrea) Borrelli and Tyler
Borrelli. She leaves four
great-grandchildren: George and
Josephine Holahan & Gianna and
Dominic Borrelli. She also leaves
three sisters: Kathleen Sancomb, Marge
Maurer, Mary Doty and one brother:
Donald (Karyn) Rocker, several nieces
and nephews, grand-nieces and
grand-nephews. Betty leaves a special
niece, Karen Rocker. She was
predeceased by her husband, James, her
parents and her older brother, Floyd
Rocker, Jr.
Our family would like to sincerely
thank the entire staff at Rome
Memorial Hospital along with Dr. Samir
Desai, Windy Mitchell and the entire
staff of Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare
for their compassion, professionalism
and outstanding service to their
patients and committed care for Betty.
We would also like to thank the many
family and friends for their kindness
in getting Betty to and from
appointments, their constant
companionship and for delicious meals
provided. She loved you all.
Betty's funeral service will be held
on Wednesday, June 19th, at 1 PM at
the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W.
Chestnut Street, Rome, NY. Burial will
be private.
Relatives and friends may call at the
funeral home on Wednesday from 11 Am
to 1 PM prior to the service.
Donations can be made in Betty's
memory to: Jervis Public Library, The
American Cancer Society or The
American Heart Association.
