Barbara
Safran Smith Rimiller passed away on
November 20, 2020, in Henderson, N.C. with
two lifelong friends, Carmen and Becky, by
her side.
She was born on May 16, 1942,
to Frank and Mary (Tamazin) Safran. Barbara
taught math in Rome schools for most of her
adult life. She graduated from Westmoreland
Central School and went on to Oneonta State.
She earned three master’s degrees in
mathematics, business and education. She had
many friends who also enjoyed her passion
for tournament bridge and live theater,
music and dance, After retirement, she moved
to Henderson, N.C. She spent her winters in
Panama City Beach, Florida, and spent every
Christmas with Carmen and Becky Proia.
She leaves behind to cherish
her memory a daughter, Lori Witt, in
Henderson, N.C.; a stepson, William Rimiller
in N.C.; a brother Frank (Mary Lou) Safran,
Ohio; and cousins Walter (Marsha) Safran of
Wisc.; Phyllis Gworek, of Rome, and Elaine,
of Ohio. She was preceded in death by a son,
Ryan Smith; first husband, Lynn Smith, and
the love of her life, second husband, Bill
Rimiller Sr.
We will celebrate her life at
the Safran gravesite on Tuesday, July 20, at
1 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Rome.
